Why are they a rip off?

My complaint about true.com is not so much that they are a ripoff (I thankfully never sent them any of my money)... MY big complaint about them is, once you get on their mailing list, it's impossible to get them to take you off of it! Every day, sometimes even a couple times a day, there's something in my inbox from true.com, with a pic of some woman (usually one who looks like a prostitute) in some little hick town who I have no interest in meeting. I honestly think that if I died tomorrow, the folks at true.com would still be trying to figure out my new e-mail address in Hell. DO NOT sign up with true.com, unless you want them to haunt you for the rest of your e-mail life.

I have to echo the sentiments immediately above this post, as well as adding that True.com has this "wink" system that really makes no sense to me.. It seems like the way it works is that every day you get 5 random people who are "compatible" with you sent to youre inbox via "winks", which are basically false hellos. You see a girl or guy who you think is interested in you and reply to their wink, and they have no knowledge that they ever winked at you. I'm tempted to believe there are a lot of fake profiles on the site as well, designed to gain the interest of people. To me, wasting peoples time like that and taking their money to boot? Thats ridiculous.

When you join up for true you have the option of turning this "feature" off for your account. I believe it was right near where you check that you have read the terms of service is where you check that you don't want true to send winks on your behalf to other members who meet your match criteria.

This is an obvious attempt by them to get conversations starting but a little under handed as well since it is enabled by default and most people either miss it or are unsure of what it means.

I never signed up with this site, however i am getting tons of email from interested patries who has seen my profile. Some of them are "winking back at me" I never winked in the first place!!!! BEWARE

My biggest problem with true.com is that I emailed over 50 members and not once have i received a responce except for a few times when girls said they were simply not interested. I think most guys that go on these sites will not meet the type of girls they are looking for, and most of the pretty girls on the sites are very picky or golddiggers.

I totally agree. Women in real life never expressed much interest in me, so I'm very suspicious as to why so many women on true.com would be trying to flirt with me.

I recently decided to try the free 7 day trial after seeing daily winks to me from many people. I found out when I cancelled that the winks were computer generated by TRUE based on supposed compatibility and other profile matches. I never marked the box on my email options to do this and I winked back at many, but they were not interested, even though they supposedly winked. Then I started getting "wink" backs from people I never approached and were not at all a match based on my profile. The dead give away was that none of them were nearby and none of them were seeking someone my age or even my type. I forgot to cancel on the 8th day and was charge $49.99. The following three days my credit card was charged for $2.99 and then 99 cents twice, for reason unknown to me. As soon as I paid to join, the winks suddenly became few and far between. Not that any of them were really interested people in the 1st place. I cancelled early in my 30 days to stop the nonsense and to stop the daily charges to my credit card. The site is a rip off because they play dishonest games with people and lead you on plus they charge additional fees for mysterious items.

True is a complete ripoff, first they send you emails saying that someone has sent you a message...but you have to pay to see it. So you pay or take the 7 day free trial only to find out that it is a computer generated email stating that so and so has added new photos or something equally stupid. They send winks on your behalf to who knows who and you get winks from people that never even looked at your profile, they just send them out to hook you in.

So I got desperate and paid...big mistake. After reviewing my bank statement, I observed that true.com took out the standard 30 dollar membership fee, or what ever it was back then, and then about a week later, I noticed that they deducted another 10.00 from my bank account. I contacted their help desk to inquire about the 10.00 charge and was told that it was the "fee" for using their chat rooms, wich I never used and had no idea that I was going to be charged that when I initially signed up and became a paid member. Getting them to cancel my membership altogether was a complete hassle, getting them to stop hitting my bank acount was another nightmare, I ended up paying for several months while fighting to get them to stop hitting my account.
