I tried these guys out in 2001 under the PlatinumPersonals.com name. Someone had messaged me on another site with words to the effect of "contact me at Platinum Personals". I was new to online dating at the time, so I set up a profile and was well down the path to sending these guys some money when I noticed their terms of service mentioned that they might send fake e-mails from fake people.

From their current terms of service:

"We also reserve the right to send electronic mail to you in an effort to solicit your patronage of our Service as a paying member."

It may very well be that they have cleaned up their act in the last couple of years. Perhaps their terms of service now refer to ordinary business advertising e-mails.

I doubt it. I signed up just to look around, then noticed you can do essentially nothing until you start paying them (can't look at any profiles, can't read incoming messages, etc.). The next day I started getting e-mail notices that people were sending me "responses", which is highly unlikely considering that I had barely filled out my profile. So for kicks I tried to read my messages, only to discover I had to sign up ($30/month) just to read them. I deleted my "free" account and got out of there.

Yes, that's exactly what I remember from before. Still a scam site then.
