I'm sure some people do fine with Fling (or True, or some of the other nearly identical sites), but the question is, when a website obviously profits from fake sites, then is it worth it to give them your credit card just on the off chance that you'll find the 10-20% of members who might be real?
And it has nothing to do with ugly or not, or having game or not -- I did a few 'test runs' where I set up a profile with NO biographical information and no photo, just so I could browse the site. Within two days I had about 60 emails from a variety of women who claimed to be so intrigued and attracted to my empty profile

These emails always came in one of two ways -- an incredibly attractive girl with professional-looking photos would email me, who always HAPPENED to be in this one tiny town near me. This was probably about half of the emails. What's funny is that a certain group of websites (fling, true, adultfriendfinder, a few others) always make this same error -- they all identify me as being from this other town and show me profiles based on this IP address bot error. So these sites now expect me to believe that there are hundreds of Playboy model-level hot girls, all looking for one-night stands, all in this tiny rural town of about 2000 people.
The second type is when there are all these semi-custom interest notification messages from girls from around the country, but when you actually look at the profiles of these girls, there's nothing indicating that they would be SO interested in someone like me that they would claim to want to date a guy 1500 miles away. So it seems that the website itself sends fake interest notification messages to 'free trial' level subscribers to gain interest.
Again, there are probably real profiles on these sites, but the question is, are you willing to pay money AND risk your credit card information for a site where most of your emails/interest notifications are COMPLETELY fake? Or does it make sense to check out some more reputable dating sites, where there will be scammers, but most of the members are not fake? I mean, the website itself is giving you false information! You would give money to someone you KNOW is giving you false information, just on the tiny chance that later on they might be honest with you?
Make up your own mind, and be logical, NOT hopeful -- hope and self-deception is how these sites take your money. And about other users and more favorable reviews of these sites -- let's not forget that a website willing to make this much of an effort to scam you, is going to be willing to put up fake reviews and BS posts from 'success stories.'
