Hotornot.com = A fun site even if you don't register. It is cheap to register for a month ($5.95) and send e-mail to people. The problem is one cannot send someone an e-mail unless they first agree that they might be interested in you. I've had mixed success with this site. Three women contacted me. One deleted me after writing a lame generic message. One got upset if I didn't write her back every twelve hours or sooner, so I deleted her after a couple days. One quit logging onto the site. I showed interest in about 40 women on this site. Four of them showed interest back to me. Two never wrote me and promptly deleted me after I wrote them once. One responded to my first message but not the next one. She also quit logging onto the site around that time. And the other, I still email every month. The cheapest site but you get very little room to write anything about yourself in the profile.

Ineedanewgirlfriend.com = Good questions that allow you to write quite a bit to show your personality. Problem is very few people use this luxury. Instead they put a few standard answers so they can get into the site and browse for their mate. Then they contact you and you cannot tell anything about them from their profile. Another problem is the number of women users on the site. I can almost rattle them off by memory. Total number of women matching my most general criteria about 50. BUT, the same 20 names pop up at various hours of the day and none of those are in my 70. Why? Most women have their profiles hidden so that you only know they exist if they contact you or if you happen to browse them when they are online. The site does allow you to post most any photo so it allows you to show your creativity in that aspect. I did have seven women contact me through this site. I responded to all of them. I carried on conversations with most of them through several messages. Two of them have never responded since I posted my photo even though we were having good conversations. I've lost touch with one after she started her Air Force boot camp. One quit speaking to me after I invited her to a party that some friends were throwing. This could lead one to believe that her photo is not really her and she is embarrassed about that fact. One still writes me but never answers my questions. She seems like she is just writing to someone because they are there. I contacted about 10 women on my own and, of course, none of them ever responded. For just $24.95 a month you can contact all the members you want all month long. It's free to post your profile, free to browse the listings, and it's free to receive messages from members.

Dreamdates.com = they rejected a couple of my photos and I never got any responses from their users. Only with them for a month. "Tens of thousands of members." Cannot do full search unless you are a paying member ($24.95/month).

Dreammates.com = I quickly received a few matches here but most didn't have photos and one didn't match any of my criteria. I also received a message from a user and when I followed a link she sent me, it took me to a different web site for Russian brides. Makes one wonder if the two sites are connected with each other or if there are just moles (spies) registered within other sites. I was with them for 3 months. There are "hundreds of thousands of dreammates" and over a hundred matched my general criteria but none responded to my notes. It's $9.95/per three people you send original messages to. I actually corresponded with two for several weeks.

Confidentialconnections.com = "International matchmaking agency" but basically seems to be just a service to make money by introducing you to Russian women. For $4.95, you have full access except for e-mailing that's another $7.00 per lady you e-mail. Then you must fly to other countries if you decide you are truly interested in someone. Of course, the site can help with travel arrangements too. How giving of them.

Amia10.com = An inferior ripoff of hotornot.com. Has very few users but that may because it is newer. Free to create a profile and post a picture but of course cost money to send messages. Thank God it's only $4.95/month because there's not much going on at this site in terms of number of members nor looks nor functionality. Almost makes you wish there were aesthetics police monitoring the net.

Nerve.com = Sometimes great. This site has lots of interesting profiles, pictures, and people. More uniqueness than any other site. I put up my profile and two days later a woman wrote me back. To respond, I have to pay money (of course). It is something like $15 to send a note to 15 women. Once they reply to your message, you can send notes back & forth for free. I immediately sent a short brilliant note relating specifically to a couple things in her profile. She never wrote back. Basically she would appear to be bait to get guys to pay their money. I did use my other paid credits to contact 10 more women. I keep in touch with two of them. One wrote me back but seemed annoyed that I had contacted her in the first place. The others never responded.

Another note of interest (and I wish I could remember the site), my roommate joined a site and had 3 emails from women interested in him. They were all attractive but very non-glamorous (more real) and had decent profiles. To reply to them, he would have to, of course, pay a fee. I joined the same site the next day, and guess what? I had three women interested in me. Yep, same three. Then I created a fake profile where I entered almost everything as the exact opposite of my first profile. Guess what? Same three women were interested.

Thank you for the post. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that reading your real-life Internet dating diary is very rewarding. I only regret that your experiences were such a disappointment. But it serves as a caution to others, to not raise their expectations to high. Sooner or later I'll post my story on this board, as well. :-)
