Forum Subject: Girlfriend forgot my actual birthday.

I am in college and am in a fairly new relationship. My girlfriend of 6 months gave me a birthday gift the weekend before my birthday. We were seeing each other that night and we live about an hour away from each other so it made sense. What has upset me is that on the day of my birthday … Thursday … I didn’t receive a phone call or even a text.

I am not completely pissed off since she didn’t forget completely but it would have been nice to receive a call on the actual day. I know she wasn’t busy that night since she was home doing homework. Should I bring this up casually when I call her tonight or am I being too sensitive? I have been told by people that I can be too emotional/sensitive sometimes.

If it is something that bugs you then I would mention it to her. Stuff like this tend to simmer and then explode down the road if to many mistakes build up.

She didn’t forget your birthday completely and she did get you a present so her heart is in the right place. I would just mention it in passing and I am sure she will be embarrassed and say sorry. I highly doubt she didn’t call you on purpose.

I'm with RayGun on this. While it's harder and harder to forget birthdays with social media reminders, it sounds like an honest mistake and that she tried to the best of her ability. I'm terrible with dates as well so I tend to defend those who make mistakes

It happens sometimes that we forget important things. If it is bothering you too much, you should let her know and forget the episode after.
