It took singles a couple years to figure it out, but there are plenty of singles & dating groups on Meetup.com now.
The best part is... no fakes to deal with!!!!! It's nothing like OLD, where a guy can "stuff" a site with stolen female photos and made-up profiles. It's a dating troll's worst nightmare.
Now the bad news... most of the singles & dating groups on Meetup.com are alcohol-centered, so if you don't drink then you're pretty much s*** out of luck. (For whatever reason, we seem to think nondrinkers don't get lonesome.)
But wait, there's more good news than bad... if you don't like any of the groups they have on Meetup.com already, you can start one for under 100 bucks, or if you're lucky you can take over one if the previous organizer is tired of running it... then you can customize the group.
On 12-4-2011, I went to a potluck for a singles group named Relationship Minded Singles, which was started on Meetup barely a month earlier by a guy named Jason who was tired of the bar scene. Since he started the group, it now has about 200 members... and over 40 showed up at the potluck. There was not a drop of alcohol to be found, so that BS that you can't have singles without alcohol is a crock. Everyone there was really cool, not rude or uptight like with the nightclub groups. Jason knows this, and that's why his group is different. Alcohol-centered singles groups come a dime a dozen on Meetup.com.
OTOH up until then I'd been going to a local singles meetup group which meets in nightclubs... and at the last meeting, the hostess only got 6 guests. Hopefully she will take the hint.
And then there's a group named Synergy that I went to 2 years ago... what a mess that one was. Turns out it was almost entirely made up of 50-60 yo women and a handful of men, and they all drink.
So... I don't think I'm making stuff up by saying that I think OLD's days are numbered. As more guys like Jason glom on to starting dating groups on Meetup.com, those groups will do to OLD what OLD did to outfits like Great Expectorations.
Ha ha, all those poor trolls will have nowhere to post their fake profiles. It breaks the heart... *sigh*

We recently added a
meetup review which talks about the single groups found on the site along with how well they work. Meetup is free for users to join and if you rather meet people in real life than online then it is something definitely worth checking out.

In short, meetup.com is like a prison where you cant interact with other prisoners. You can pay for the one hour break i.e. event where most of the interesting people never show up!
I joined meetup as I am a very shy person. There were few groups for singles and I decided to interact with a few before I would show up at a overpriced boring event with strangers. I never go to an event alone and reason for interaction with another member was to make sure the company will be worth it. After I began to receive messages back from other interested members, meetup.com deleted my account stating as spam messages!!! Is it really spam if members are talking to each other or basic networking? In this age and day meetup.com might be the only site not allowing online messages. Truly bizarre & complete waste of time.
