If I cant message paid members, why should I subscribe to message members?

This is something I have noticed recently about some dating sites.

like Adult Friend Finder, etc.
They have Gold and Silver members that pay for service, but I as a male(not sure if this is the same issue for females), arent allowed to send messages nor read messages from and to Gold and Silver members.

So lets say I wanted to Subscribe to chat with somebody I liked.
Well if the same situation applied to them, then they wouldnt be able to contact me, and it would seem like they rejected me.

But the truth of the matter is, they simply cant reply to my messages without paying.

This to me is the biggest scam of Online Dating Sites. There should be a term for sites like this that does this gimmick scam.

I would suggest that dating review sites let members and readers of reviews, know if the site prevents members from contacting paid members.
Because that basically takes away a big chunk of the advalible members that paid members can actually communicate with.

I can understand why sites make you pay to send messages as they've got to get you to subscribe to make their money and that seems a fair way of doing it. However, whenever I come across a site that makes you pay to read messages I always think "scam".
If you have to pay to read a message, you have no idea what you're going to get. It could be spam, it could be a bait and switch, it could be the person is typing in "txt spk" or saying something you don't like ("I go seal clubbing on the weekends", etc), in which case you've paid for nothing of any value to you.
If you can read a message though you can decide whether you want to pay to reply to that person.
