Forum Subject: How do you actually reset your Tinder algorithm?

Hey everyone, I hope someone can help...

I have been using Tinder on and off for a while, and I swear my matches have completely dried up. I’ve seen people talk about “resetting the algorithm” or “resetting your ELO,” but the info online is all over the place and half of it contradicts itself.

Some say to delete your account and remake it. Others say that tanks your visibility. Some say you need to wait 3 months, others say 24 hours is enough. Some say just editing your profile does the trick. I honestly have no idea what’s real anymore.

Here’s what I’ve already tried:

- Updated my pics (nothing crazy, just better quality)
- Rewrote my bio
- Turned off/on Discovery
- Uninstalled/reinstalled the app

None of it seems to have changed anything.

So my question is:
What’s the actual best way to “reset” Tinder so the algorithm stops showing me the same people and maybe gives me a chance again? 😂

Is deleting my account worth it? Does Tinder shadowban people? How long do you have to wait before recreating your account so you don’t get penalized?

Would love to hear from anyone who’s actually done it recently and saw results.

Thanks! 🙏

I went through the exact same thing a few months ago, so you’re definitely not imagining it. My matches tanked out of nowhere, and it felt like I was getting shown to the same 20 people over and over.

What finally worked for me was a full reset, but NOT just deleting the app. I had to actually delete my account, wait a bit, and then recreate it. Here’s what I did:

1. Deleted my account completely (not just uninstalling).

2. Waited about 2–3 weeks before making a new one — I’ve heard anywhere from 72 hours to a month, but two weeks seemed to be enough.

3. Used totally fresh photos, even if they were just different angles from the same day.

4. Rewrote my bio from scratch instead of reusing the old one.

5. Didn’t swipe like crazy the first few days — kept it slow and intentional.

After I recreated it, my visibility honestly felt way better. I was getting a lot more new profiles and the match rate went up noticeably. I don’t think Tinder “shadowbans,” but I do think it kind of buries profiles that get stale or have gone through too many edits.

So yeah — the reset did help, but the waiting period + new content seemed to matter more than the actual deletion. Your mileage may vary, but that’s what worked for me.

Hope that helps!

I wouldn’t rush into deleting your account just yet. I thought mine was “dead” too, but it turned out the issue wasn’t the algorithm. It was how I was using the app.

What made the biggest difference for me was changing my swipe habits. I used to mindlessly swipe right a lot, and apparently Tinder’s system picks up on that and labels you as “low intent,” which basically lowers the quality of people you get shown.

I did three things that helped at least for me:

Stopped rapid-swiping completely. I only swiped right on profiles I genuinely liked.

Took a 48-hour break from the app (didn’t delete anything, just didn’t open it).

Turned on “Recommend Me” again after the break — that seemed to “refresh” my deck a bit.

After doing this stuff, I started getting more consistent matches again without having to wipe my account. It wasn’t a dramatic overnight change, but it was way better than before.

Deleting and recreating your account from what I hear might work, but I’d try fixing your swipe patterns first.

IMO Tinder definitely picks up on user behavior more than people think.
