I used to be a swimmer but don't have access to a pool. What are your suggestions for best forms of exercise for someone trying to lose 15-25 pounds in the next 4-6 months?

Walking and running are basics that work. Have you tried them?

I agree. General movement is great. Be active and don’t sit and watch tv all day.

You actually don’t need a gym to get in shape. You don’t even need equipment. Just walk/run and do sit ups and stretches.

Any exercises will help you loose wait.
For the best results you need to do cardio and get your heart thumping.
Unless you have a cardio machine like a standing bike, treadmill, stepper or elliptical the best way to do it is running or biking. Swimming is also good but you said that was out.

noone wants to hear this but the only way to lose weight is to eat less and move more.
All the fad diets are just fads. No one should have to pay anyone for a 'plan' on what to eat.
if it grew in the ground or on the land eat it in moderation. candy and sweets should be occasional treats.
also don't get me started on the people that have bariatric surgery because they say nothing else worked for them. They are lazy and couldn't stop themselves from putting junk in their mouth so now they are forced to starve themselves on a few ounces of food here and there for life. Sure they lose weight but look at the role model they give to kids - i have no self control unless it's forced on me.
hard work and personal determination is the only thing that is going to cut it... not diet plans or surgery or a magic wand.
