How often do you get tested for STDs? Where do you go and how are results given to you? Privately? Phone? Email? Living in a small town everyone knows your name. Frown

Depends on your sexual partners. If you are both only having sex with each other there is no need for testing. If you have more than one partner you should practice safe sex, and also get tested on a schedule. It takes one person, one disease, to really impact your life. I know from experience with HPV.

Fight the stigma. STDs can be treated but you just have to know about them. If you can’t go to a clinic, there are online places where you can send in samples for testing and results are emailed back to you. This keeps things private and no one needs to know. Also, you can order medicines without having them traceable. Don’t put off testing.

Reported STDs Reach All-time High for 6th Consecutive Year
https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2021/p0413-stds.html

Condoms, Condoms, Condoms. You play with fire you get burnt. You and your man (or men, or lady, or group of people together, or group alone, or whatever) need to wrap it up. Not only to protect you, but to protect the other person. STDs are serious, and can result in some major health issues. You don't want to treat them, you want to prevent them. Period. It's good you are asking about testing. That's the first step of avoiding pain & suffering of everyone you're having sex with. Plus, can you imagine the embarrassment you'd feel of having to admit you have an STD to everyone. That's a hard call/text to make when it could have been avoided. (I work at Planned Parenthood btw. Everyone thinks it can't happen to them, but once you have sex with 2 or more people, your risk goes up by 80%).

There are HIPAA rules in place where doctors need to keep things confidential. I wouldn't worry about a doctor that is going to tell everyone you have an STD. They have tons of patients and that's the least of their worries. Instead, why don't u just go to a clinic where these sorts of tests are done every day. It's no big deal. When I was young and stupid, I didn't get tested & assumed that I was "clean" because i had no major symptoms. So, i continued to have sex without condoms. This was a bad move. Not only did I spread disease to my partners, they all needed treatment. It's better to keep checking, and know what u might have before you mess around. And, once you are "clean", be sure to use condoms (or dental dams for sex with women). It's amazing that women don't realize how they can spread STDs with their mouths (kissing) once you've performed unprotected oral sex. Sorry to be a buzzkill.

Just go get tested and treated if necessary. I had unresolved health issues for YEARS and doctors couldn't figure it out. I had every medical test in the world from MRIs to EKG to blood work and much more, and guess what they didn't test for? STDs. I had one that raged out of control without treatment and it made me weak, and dizzy and nauseous all the time. I lost tons of weight and slept all the time. I thought i was immune to them (like a superhero!! ha ah), but sex with one infected person made me suffer for years. Doctors would have never tested me for STDs but I had a new partner that required it before we took things to the next level. Went and got tested and guess what? I solved most of my medical problems that day. -- Machelle.

I’ve been in & out of the hospital for months having tests done. I was weak and dizzy too but it was my blood levels. I found somewhere private to get tested for STDs and I got these issues under control for now. Thank you to everyone who answered seriously.

I’m not laughing. Some people are idiots for making this question into a joke. Sexual diseases are real and out there. If you have a sexual partner and have sex with them you now have had sex with everyone they had sex with. If your partner had a few partners before you, maybe they were selective and it’s not too bad. If your partner had dozens, well guess what? Many diseases can lay in remission and you’re now at risk. HPV can lay dormant for years and decades. Remember Michael Douglas and his throat cancer? Tons of examples like this. Getting tested and treated can break the cycle of active infections. Just do it. And quit the jokes please.

I was scared because i knew the people that I slept w weren't exclusive to me alone and the chances of me having caught something was pretty high which was stressful. I hated going to doctors for anything, and not for this kind of stuff which can be embarassing. This was a game changer: https://www.cvs.com/shop/home-health-care/home-tests/std-test >>>you go to the store, get a kit, and everything is done privately. To answer your question I now get tested before i have any new partners. This is PRIVATE and you should have no issues with people knowing your name or who you are.

@nnyleinnus ... don't feel judged for being tested or worry about ur local doctors' office. there are plenty of options besides cvs too. all major pharmacies have kits right in the store that u can purchase & get tested & sent to a private e-mail account. don't forget to notify your sexual partners of any infections to stop the spread of disease.

Did you know many STDs can be dormant in your body for years? If you have had unprotected sex with anyone you should get tested for herpes, clamidia, and hpv at minimum.
