Dating app Tinder partnered with star rapper Megan Thee Stallion for its “Put Yourself Out There” Challenge, a way to encourage Tinder users to be more authentic in their profiles.
The promotion is helping users gear up for online dating’s most active day, the first Sunday in January also known as the dating Super Bowl, where people flock to dating apps looking for a new relationship. The campaign is to encourage people to revise their profiles to be more creative and to showcase their unique personality traits, according to Fast Company. Tinder is offering $10,000 to 100 users in categories such as most personality, most creative, most original, most real, and others.
To enter, participants must take a screenshot or video of their new profile and post it to Instagram by December 31st, tagging @Tinder, #PYOTChallenge and #contest.
Tinder was interested in partnering with Megan Thee Stallion because she has been very outspoken about who she is and her eclectic tastes, and encourages her fans to be themselves.
“She has many different interests: She’s really into anime. She’s a gamer. She’s a college student,” Nicole Parlapiano, VP of marketing at Tinder North America told Fast Company. “There’s a lot that she’s not afraid to put out there.”
“I’ve always been unapologetically myself, and I always try to instill self-love in others,” Megan says. “Often people aren’t comfortable portraying their true selves online, which is why this campaign really spoke to me. I want to encourage everyone to feel more comfortable with who they truly are and also to celebrate those who are already putting themselves out there.”
Megan will be helping to choose the top profiles in addition to promoting the campaign, according to Fast Company. Joining her on the panel will be influencers and creators including Noah Beck, DexRated, and Kati Morton, who plan to share their own personal stories and how people can do the same in their dating profiles in creative ways.
She told Insider that she will be looking for something more intangible when she reviews the profiles. "You can really see someone's spirit shine through in how they present themselves online," she said. "People underestimate that."
The contest is open to anyone who wants to participate – you just have to download the app and create your profile.
Tinder has seen activity on its app spike this year during the pandemic, as people stuck at home turned to swiping for connection. Tinder wants to maintain that momentum into 2021, as well as cater to its fastest-growing market of daters: Gen Z.
