Tinder's New Pride Sticker

Tinder has added new profile stickers to celebrate Pride month, and as young LGBTQIA+ daters become the fastest-growing user base on its platform.

Young users can now add “My First Pride” as a sticker to help them connect with others attending Pride-related events, according to The Advocate. “Came Out Online” is another sticker specifically honoring younger Tinder users who first came out on a dating app or social media platform.

In fact, Tinder’s new Future of Dating Report found that 54 percent of LGBTQIA+ singles between the ages of 18 and 25 come out on dating apps first, and to friends and family later. The study also found that young singles say their sexual identity and gender identity have become more fluid over the past three years.

According to The Advocate, Tinder is offering stickers that signify allyship for the LGBTQIA+ community. The new “Save Queer Spaces” sticker is part of Tinder’s community building. When users profess their beliefs through this sticker, they are showing that they support safe spaces for talking about queer experiences and will also act as a safe space for others to connect and share.

The “Happy Pride” sticker is to celebrate Pride month, and the “Proud Ally” sticker is how singles on Tinder can support LGBTQIA+ users, as well as the community as a whole.

The company’s new offerings come as LGBTQIA+ rights have come under attack in the U.S., with anti-trans bills being passed in some states that often target LGBTQIA+ youth.

Many countries outside of the U.S. are targeting young queer people in more direct ways. Tinder released an update to alert users about their personal safety when traveling to the more than 70 countries that have criminalized same-sex relationships and dating. In fact, gay dating app Grindr found that law enforcement officials in Egypt and other countries where it’s outlawed were posting profiles on its platform to “trap” LGBGTQIA+ users and arrest them.

Tinder has long been an ally of the queer community. Melissa Hobley, Chief Marketing Officer at Tinder, said the company was committed to LGBTQIA+ youth.

“Our LGBTQIA+ members aged 18-25 have more than doubled in the last two years, and the community is the fastest growing population on Tinder” she said in the company’s announcement.  “We’re so honored to play a role in their journey from coming out to finding community, and are committed to creating more inclusive ways to make the authentic connections we know today’s daters value most.”
