Tinder is reaching out to the coveted Gen Z market by partnering with Saweetie to welcome eighteen-year-olds to college, and to encourage them to meet people using the app.

Swipe Off is the nationwide challenge the dating app has launched, where it will award the college or university with the most swipe activity with a free concert headlined by the popular rapper, along with a surprise special guest.

The Swipe Off challenge is only open to select campuses participating in Tinder U, which is a feature college students can select that lets them connect with others at their school. According to the company’s announcement on the blog, the school that accumulates the most likes (or nopes) on Tinder by October 6th will win the free concert with Saweetie.

Users can enroll in Tinder U if they haven’t already by tapping the profile icon to go into “edit profile” mode. From there, they can choose “school” and scroll down to find theirs. Once a school is selected, the user can hit “Apply for Tinder U” and enter a student email address to be verified.

Then users can swipe on as many profiles as they like.

Saweetie partnering with Tinder is a natural fit, especially since she’s been outspoken about the college experience with Tinder, referencing the dating app in her viral hit “Tap In.”

“Whether they were a fling, a friend, or something more serious, the people I met at USC are what made my time there a blast. I’m excited to partner with Tinder in encouraging today’s college students to ‘tap in’ to the possibilities that come from meeting new people,” Saweetie said in the release.

Stephanie Danzi, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing at Tinder, notes college-aged users as the core of the app’s user base. "Tinder is always working to match the vibrant energy of our college users…over the years, we've seen countless campus connections blossom into meaningful relationships," she says in the company’s announcement. "We created The Swipe Off challenge to feed into that energy and encourage them to unlock all the possibilities of the college experience that come from meeting new people."

Tinder has made some changes in the past several months, including unveiling new AI-driven features, hoping to attract more younger users. Focusing on college students is bringing the next generation of daters on board, which means more revenue in the future.

The contest closes October 6th, and the winning school will be announced by October 20th. For more on this dating app check out our Tinder review.
