Refrigerdating Dating Site

The “coolest” new dating trend? If Samsung has a say, your smart fridge will soon be your go-to matchmaker. The electronics giant has recently announced its most surprising venture yet, a dating platform they’ve punnily dubbed Refrigerdating.

Refrigerdating promises to help singles find love based on the contents of their fridge. “In a world of social media, polished pictures and perfect surfaces, it can be hard to find out who truly is The One,” says Samsung. “But there is one space in our homes to which the polish hasn’t reached.“ That space is the inside of your refrigerator, which, if Samsung is to be believed, can say a surprising amount about who you are and what you’re into.

"We hope people can meet under more honest or transparent circumstances with the help of the contents of the fridge, because that can tell you a lot about the personality," said Elin Axelsson, PR manager at Samsung Electronics Nordic.

See a fridge filled with veggies, protein shakes and sliced turkey? That one could be a winner if an active and healthy lifestyle is a priority for you. Spot a fridge full of decadent restaurant leftovers and a freezer full of ice cream? If you consider yourself a gourmand with a taste for the finer things in life, you may have found your match.

The free app works with the Samsung Family Hub Refrigerator. Start by signing up and uploading an image of the inside of your fridge. The app will then connect you with a variety of other images to evaluate, and you’re free to swipe through until you find a fridge that makes your mouth water.

Samsung offers several suggestions for successful Refrigerdating. First, resist the urge to style your fridge specifically to attract matches. Authenticity is the whole point. “If this is to work, it needs to be the real thing. Cheating and relationships don’t go together well,” says Samsung. Second, don't limit yourself to fridges that look just like yours, because “it’s the unexpected mixes that makes the three star restaurants.” Finally, break the ice with a personal message that reflects the contents of the fridge photo, compliments the recipient, and reveals something about yourself, for example: ”Hey, love that spicy taco sauce, makes me think of my exchange semester in Mexico.”

Yes, it sounds silly, but it’s hardly the first niche dating site to hit the market, and Samsung worked with a real relationship expert while creating the app. If you are what you eat, then perhaps Refrigerdating isn’t so wacky after all.
