Actor Rebel Wilson has announced the launch of her new dating app Fluid, designed to help daters find relationships that are about “love with no labels.”
The dating app allows users to set up their profiles without having to identify the gender or sexual preference of their potential partners, or to define themselves by a limited number of categories. According to Wilson, the app’s algorithm factors in the profiles you are spending more time on and serves up other profiles based on those, rather than filtering out potential matches according to sexual and gender preferences, allowing singles more opportunities to explore different types of relationships.
“This is the first dating app where you don’t have to actually define yourself or tick a box to say ‘I’m straight, I’m gay, I’m bisexual,’ and you don’t have to describe what you are looking for,” the Pitch Perfect star told People Magazine[*1] .
Wilson shared that she never felt “100 percent straight,” and that using a dating app where she didn’t have to define her sexuality probably would have helped her love life sooner. She publicly announced her relationship with fashion and jewelry designer Ramona Agruma in July of 2022, and is now raising a three month old, born via surrogate.
Wilson said she was also inspired by the Gen Z cast members of her latest film Senior Year, who are much more open to different types of relationships and don’t like to categorize themselves or set strict preferences for who they date. In fact, she referenced a study for People Magazine that found that almost half of Gen Z singles considered themselves fluid when dating other people.
She added that the app supported not only the LGBTQ+ community, but straight people as well. According to The Brag, Wilson shared that she created Fluid to be “a very safe, very inclusive space where you don’t have to categorize yourself, so there can’t be any judgements...”
The app offers a set of community guidelines, stating[*2] : “If you’re honest, kind and respectful to others, you’ll always be welcome here. If you choose not to be, you may not last… We’re asking you to be considerate, think before you act, and abide by our community guidelines both on and offline. You heard that right: your offline behavior can lead to termination of your Fluid account.”
Wilson is looking to partner with LGBTQ+ organizations to create a real community for members of the app, and to provide resources for questions they might have or guidance they need for dating.
Fluid is currently available via the Apple App Store[*3] .
