The wildly popular dating reality series Perfect Match has been renewed for a second season by Netflix. The series debuted in February of this year and spent five weeks on Netflix’s Global Top 10 English TV list, and reaching the top 10 TV lists in 58 countries, according to Deadline.com[*1] .
The show doesn’t introduce new singles to its audience – instead, it brings together stars who remained single after they left other popular dating reality shows like Love is Blind, The Ultimatum, Too Hot to Handle, and The Mole.
The characters convene on a tropical island (per usual for reality shows) and try to find their “perfect match.” The twist is that the singles have to compete to form relationships, and the most compatible couples have the most power. These couples play matchmaker, with the ability to break up others and send them on dates with other singles they invite to the villa.
The idea is that these power couples can help people find love, or totally sabotage them, which leads to more chaos – and therefore higher ratings. As Elite Daily noted: “The first season of Perfect Match was a nonstop tornado of hookups, breakups, and shakeups from some of Netflix’s most dramatic reality stars.”
The buzz is to expect more drama from season 2 with additional singles recruits from Love is Blind, which remains wildly popular after the season 4 reunion recently aired.
The production was notoriously secretive for season 1, Elite Daily noted. It was casted and filmed back in early 2022, and wasn’t teased or announced until the beginning of 2023, and then released a month later. There is debate as to whether the second season is currently filming, about to film, or has already wrapped production, which means there could be a new season coming sooner than later.
Season one of the series was hosted by Nick Lachey, who also hosts Love is Blind with his wife Vanessa. Recently, a group of fans on social media has organized a petition to oust the two, claiming that they focused more attention on themselves than on the contestants. At least one contestant on Love is Blind and on Perfect Match, Shayne Jenson, recently came to their defense, saying that they were “the nicest humans during my experience.”
Insider also revealed that there were problems on the set of Love is Blind, revealing that contestants were constantly given alcohol, had unpredictable access to food and were often sleep deprived. On top of that, one contestant in season 2 Danielle Ruhl said she was shocked they had cast her, given her history of mental illness and depression.
Netflix hasn’t yet announced the release date for season 2 of Perfect Match.
