Dating app conglomerate Match Group has appointed DV Williams as its Chief People Officer, according to the company’s press release.
Williams will be based in Los Angeles and will oversee operations that involve its employees, which according to the company include compensation, benefits, “people information systems,” diversity, equity and inclusion, and learning and development for Match Group, according to the company's press release[*1] .
Williams last worked in the same role for Cars.com, where he oversaw human resources as well as diversity and inclusion. He will report to Match Group CEO Bernard Kim.
Diversity and inclusion has been important to Match Group’s brand. This week, the company announced a partnership with Human Rights Campaign to advocate for the passing of the Respect for Marriage Act, which would codify same-sex marriage. Its Tinder app would have a landing page asking the user to send a message to their Senators supporting the bill, according to the company’s press release.
Prior to that, the company added a feature that allowed LGBTQ+ users to hide their profiles when traveling in countries where it is dangerous for them. (As of now, there are 69 countries where they would be at risk.) The feature determines the user’s location when traveling and assesses whether there is a threat to the user’s safety, and the user has the option to keep their profile hidden. If the user decides to have their profile remain public, their sexual preference and gender identity will not be revealed on the app.
Match Group has also advocated for its female employees in the wake of the Texas abortion ban last year (the company is based in Dallas). It offered to pay for travel and expenses for employees seeking abortion care out of state.
Williams’ role is focused on human resources and the over 2,000 employees of Match Group, specifically on diversity and inclusion.
"D.V. is an exceptional people leader whose expertise in talent retention and recruitment will be an enormous asset as we pursue our innovation goals," said Kim in the company’s press release. "We're thrilled to welcome D.V. to the Match Group family, and we can't wait to see how he'll make the workplace experience even richer for our employees."
"As a human resources professional, I've long been a believer in the power of connection to change lives – all of us have benefited from some experience of workplace mentorship, friendship, or being part of a solid team," said Williams in the announcement. "I'm so excited to be joining Match Group, a company built on human connection, to lead HR and help support connections across the organization."
