Hawk Tuah Girl Launches New Dating App Pookie Tools

Hailey Welch, the “Hawk Tuah” girl who rose to fame from a viral video moment has now launched a new dating app dubbed Pookie Tools.
Pookie Tools is AI-based and acts like a virtual wingman, offering everything from conversation prompts to outfit recommendations to profile enhancement tips.
The app targets the Gen Z market with some of Welch’s “cheat codes,” as the description in the app store[*1] reads. The cheat codes include a “Conversation Assistant” and “Text Responder” that offer personalized prompts to keep conversations going and an “Astrological Insights” feature that helps determine a match’s compatibility based on zodiac signs.
The app also has a “Flirt Meter” to assess (on a scale of 1 to 100) how flirtatious and fun your text messages are. The app can recommend date ideas based on your location and whether it is a first date or the sixth or seventh time you’re seeing someone and just need a fresh idea, according to Tech Crunch[*2] .
And while these AI-based features are becoming more common for dating apps, Pookie offers some more interesting and controversial features, too. The “Height Detector” determines whether a potential match is the height they claim to be, based on their profile photos. The “Bald Predictor” similarly analyzes photos of a person to search for potential patterns of hair loss.
The idea is to give users a sense of confidence in the dating app experience, especially young daters who are looking for guidance.
Welch has managed to turn her viral moment into a career in just a few months. She currently has gathered about 5 million followers across her social media platforms, debuted her podcast called Talk Tuah, and now has launched the dating app.
Welch told Tech Crunch that she was on Bill Maher’s podcast and they discussed the idea, which she credits him with giving her. “He kind of pushed me, in a way, saying I should be a relationship coach. And so we came up with the idea. … This app is the easiest way for them to find their forever Pookie.”
Welch said that the app’s AI would train on transcripts of her podcast episodes to give the prompts a little more of her distinct personality and humor.
The app offers weekly and yearly subscriptions to be able to use the tools, but every user receives a three-day trial to explore all that is available on the platform before having to commit.
