Grindr has launched its new cross-country bus tour “Grindr Rides America” in celebration of Pride month.
“From the Castro to Stonewall, we’ll be getting around—hop on, get off, and get your dicks on Route 66,” Grindr’s cheeky press release reads. “This is all in celebration of YOU as we toast to 15 years and counting.”
Grindr’s bus tour is also in celebration of its fifteenth anniversary, and the company will offer free HIV testing, PrEP resources, and a full-service photography studio to LGBTQ neighborhoods on its route. According to Mashable[*1] , a team from medical service Q Care Plus will be along for the ride to discuss HIV and STI prevention with attendees, as well as screening, treatment options, and how to access prep and doxy-PEP to encourage discussion and support without judgment.
“Find out why [Q Care Plus] is your go-to for more than just a cheeky encounter with a cotton swab,” said Grindr in its press release[*2] . “It’s the online, one-stop shop for easy, virtual visits with expert providers, HIV and STI testing for PrEP users, and PrEP and doxy-PEP prescriptions delivered to your door. Even better, most patients pay $0 for their visits, labs, and prescriptions.”
Along with the health-related perks, the bus tour will feature local drag queens, free swag, and Grindr Unlimited giveaways.
Grindr also noted in its press release that it will be sharing “regional snapshots” of Grindr users in the destination cities, so potential users can see what the LGBTQ+ community is like in their city. Grindr previously unveiled global trends via its Grindr Unwrapped promotion, but the new local snapshots will reflect user data on a micro level. The company compiled profiles and survey data for each destination city and aggregated it to get a feel for how trends, preferences and attitudes differ from city to city.
Interestingly, Grindr is offering the snapshots while it is being sued for sharing personal data with third parties, including HIV information. The company has fought back, saying they have not misused personal data outside of what is in the terms and agreement users sign. The case is still in process, but this promotional move might impact public perception of Grindr, or how the snapshots are received.
The tour will stop in ten cities across the U.S., starting with San Francisco and ending with New York on June 30th, hitting up about ten cities where Pride events are taking place. Cities include Los Angeles, Phoenix, New Orleans, Atlanta, Columbus, Chicago and Pittsburgh, among others.
