Dressing up for Halloween? You might want to reconsider your scary or political-themed ensemble and go for something funny, according to a new study from Dating.com.
The dating service surveyed its users to assess the differences a Halloween costume could make in attracting potential partners. Considering this is an election year in the U.S., political costumes might be popular, but it seems the vast majority of daters – 70% of respondents - are most attracted to people wearing funny costumes.
Cute costumes came in a distant second at 18 percent, and scary costumes third at 13 percent. Political costumes were a definite no among both men and women. They were considered the least attractive costumes for 68 percent of men and 52 percent of women. So, if you were planning on dressing as Joe Biden or Donald Trump, you might want to come up with another plan.
Halloween tends to be a favorite holiday for singles, where people can show their creativity in fun ways – and this year is no different in spite of the pandemic. Two in ten online daters have costumed pictures displayed on their dating profiles according to the study, and nearly half of respondents said that Halloween was their favorite holiday for meeting new people.
This year, Halloween might look a bit different for singles absent the parties and usual fanfare as we struggle with another spike in coronavirus cases. Many people are opting for virtual dates before agreeing to meet in person, which will likely be the case for this holiday season.
Still, there’s room for some Halloween spirit. You can wear a costume no matter what – even for a virtual date. Dating.com recommends not only choosing a funny costume, but something that reflects your personality so your date gets a sense of who you are. If you’re looking for inspiration, there’s plenty of material on Pinterest and Instagram to inspire you.
If you’re up for meeting in person, make sure it’s outside. There are plenty of seasonal and spooky options – like visiting a pumpkin patch, going on a haunted hayride, or maybe something as simple as a costumed picnic. If you are a Halloween fan, there are safe ways you can celebrate.
