Cove App Fights Hookup Culture With Three-Level Chemistry System

“Get swept away. Not swiped away.”
That is the promise of Cove, a new members-only dating app that aims to provide a more engaged experience for singles who are tired of wasting their time with idle conversations and hookup culture. The app offers users three opportunities to establish chemistry through an innovative level system that must be completed within 10 days.
"Random hookups can threaten one's physical and psychological health. While other dating apps may foster this sort of behavior, we believe that there is a large segment of the population hungry for something more meaningful in the online dating experience," says Cove founder Charles Messow. "We created Cove to guide matches through more meaningful conversation within 10 days while respecting the premium of everyone's time and attention."
The name Cove comes from the combination of COnversation and loVE. The platform’s three-step matching process is centered around communication and designed to help members dive deeper into their connections in a short span of time.
Level one is text. Users who mutually indicate an interest in chatting unlock the ability to send and receive text messages through the app. Once seven texts have been exchanged, both parties must agree to move the conversation to the next level within 48 hours. If there is no agreement, the match disappears permanently.
Level two is voice. Voice messaging unlocks if both sides agree to progress to level two and texting is temporarily disabled. Three voice messages can be exchanged, then it’s time to level up once more. The pair is given another 48 hours to agree to move up to level three.
Level three is video. This highest level is designed to help users engage on a more personal basis. Only one video message is exchanged to complete level three. If all three levels are not completed within 10 days, the match disappears forever.
Interested singles must apply for membership and be accepted before using Cove. Once verified via their LinkedIn or Instagram account, male users can invite female users to #MeetInTheCove. Invites are limited to encourage mindful connections and prevent the excessive swiping approach often used on other dating apps. Women must accept an invite for a conversation to start. If a female users declines or the invite expires, the invite is returned to the sender.
