According to a recent study conducted by dating app Bumble, seventy-four percent of singles in India believe it is important to have similar tastes in music as their partner.
The study also found that 91 percent, a vast majority of Indians surveyed, feel that music helps build a strong connection and 89 percent think that someone who has the same taste in music as them makes them more attractive, according to Indulge Express.
Bumble offers interest tags specifically for music that users can add to their profiles to interest potential matches, or at least get a conversation started.
The survey also found that 92 percent of Indians think that music helps them express feelings they can’t put into words, and 88 percent said they felt that sharing music and making playlists is their love language.
In fact, music is such an important part of peoples’ lives, 66 percent of respondents said they would be less inclined to date someone if they had completely different tastes in music, and 61 percent said if their partner didn’t like their musical tastes, they would not be compatible, according to Indulge Express[*1] .
Music has long played a role in finding love, no matter what country you live in. In fact, it’s such a popular way to connect, several dating apps have offered music-related features, such as Tinder partnering with Spotify to allow users to connect their Spotify playlists to their profiles. Tinder also added an “Anthem” feature where users could choose a song that resonates with them that would play when someone looked at their profile.
Tinder went further to offer Music Mode on their Explore page, so users who had the same taste in music could connect. This includes IRL, where people going to the same concert or music festival could match with each other to meet up at the event.
“Music can inspire great conversations about different phases and experiences of our lives or help express emotions we sometimes can’t share in words,” Samarpita Samaddar, Bumble’s Communications Director in India, told Indulge Express. “Compatibility is crucial in forging healthy and equitable relationships, and Bumble understands that shared interests are important. You can share your favourite music genres right on your Bumble profile using Interest Badges and find your musical match or even let the difference in your music preferences spark a great conversation!” she added.
For Indian Bumble users, the most popular musical genre is Bollywood at 62 percent, followed by Indian Classical (50%), and then Rap & Hip Hop (39%), Rock (37%), and Folk Music (36%), according to Indulge Express.
