Bumble has announced it is partnering with the New York Liberty women’s basketball team for the remainder of the season, building on its multi-year deal with the WNBA.

The partnership is intended to “create local opportunities for Bumble users and Liberty fans to connect over a shared love of women’s basketball,” according to Liberty’s website.  New York Liberty became the first team to get a spot in the WNBA Playoffs, and Bumble is serving as sponsor of home games during the first month of games. The dating app company will be hosting a singles event in the arena for fans and Bumble users.

Bumble is also featuring Liberty players in a new social media campaign, where Bumble users can get dating advice from Liberty players (as well as the team’s mascot).

“This exciting moment has been a long time coming for women’s sports and we are thrilled to support a rising tide around the incredible players and teams making history. The New York Liberty is an iconic institution that has made New Yorkers and sports fans proud for years. I’m thrilled that we can bring that excitement directly to our community and help them connect over their love of the game,” said Selby Drummond, Chief Marketing Officer, Bumble, in the release[*1] . “We remain committed to increasing equity for women athletes while also creating more in-person experiences for our members to meet offline in fun, new ways.”

In the days leading up to the Playoffs, Bumble is also launching a chance to win a VIP date night at a WNBA game, including travel and accommodations for two, pre-game experience, and courtside seats for the pre-game warm-ups. The winner will also be given an opportunity for photos on the court after the game.

Bumble is also choosing a lucky winner to attend the WNBA Finals.

Fans can enter for their shot – date night or the Finals ticket - starting August 27th.

This isn’t the first time that Bumble has leaned into sports to attract more users. The company ran a marketing campaign with tennis champion Serena Williams to promote the app. And more recently, Bumble expanded on its 50for50 campaign with four-time All-American and WNBA star Cameron Brink and two-time US Junior gold medalist Jada Williams.

Bumble decided on the campaign with Liberty after it found that the “sports” badge was the most popular profile addition for Bumble users in New York, and basketball is one of the most popular sports for both men and women.

Keia Clarke, Chief Executive Officer, New York Liberty, said in the announcement: “As the landscape of women’s sports evolves, we remain committed to partnering with value-aligned companies that understand the impact of women’s sports. We are thrilled to partner with Bumble to provide unique opportunities for our fans and the New York community.”
