BLK dating app has launched a new initiative in celebration of Pride which highlights queer event curators in select cities.

The campaign “It’s Giving Space: Celebrating Queer Event Curators” will offer three compelling narratives of LGBTQ+ party collectives, according to Black Enterprise Magazine[*1] . One such collective is Party Noire in Chicago, a cultural hub which celebrates Black femmes, Queer Women of Color, and Black womanhood along the gender spectrum with a focus on trans, queer, and genderqueer Black people.

Another collective, Global Warming in Brooklyn, is dedicated to uplifting Black and Brown queer and trans people by providing safe spaces where they can dance, celebrate “and experience joy,” according to Black Enterprise. It was co-created by DJs Adair and Boston Chery.

Lesbians in Houston, located in Texas, creates safe spaces for queer women that are inclusive despite being in a traditionally conservative state. This collective hosts nightlife events and parties for Houstonians and those visiting the city.

BLK will be sponsoring events put on during Pride Month by these curators, and will kick off each party with a video about that collective’s contribution to their communities.  The idea is to show a deeper insight into their impact and their dedication to creating safe spaces for the Black LGBTQ+ community.

The campaign was created in partnership with author, podcast host and BLK Advocacy Council member Sesali Bowen, and will offer engaging content, social media promotion, and in-person events celebrating “diverse expression of being Black, proud, and queer,” according to Black Enterprise.

BLK has celebrated Pride Month and its LGBTQ+ community in the past by adding more inclusive features and educational elements to its community-based platform. Last year, the company launched new PRIDE stickers for members’ profiles along with a social media initiative labeled #BLKVoices to dispel misconceptions about the letters of the LGBTQ+ spectrum and to highlight the diversity in dating experiences within the community. The dating app highlighted users on its TikTok and other social media accounts, offering a glimpse into their dating journeys that users could see firsthand.

BLK decided on this year’s initiative to highlight event curators because often the Black queer community is not represented in nationwide Pride events despite making up a significant portion of the community.

“These community leaders are pivotal in shaping our cultural landscape, and their stories of resilience and creativity deserve to be heard. We are proud to support and amplify their voices, highlighting their invaluable contributions to both the Black and LGBTQ+ communities.”
