When you’re a dating senior, it might be tough to find the gumption to get back on the horse and enjoy riding in the dating game. First dates were hard enough when you started dating way back when, but now? Forget it! With online dating and matchmaking services coming onto the scene, you are able to set up dates with people you’ve never met. It’s no longer about asking the pretty girl to dance or hoping the cute boy from the football team will ask you out. It’s learning when to do once you’ve both agreed to meet.
To save you the frustration of trying to figure out the first date, we’ve done it for you! You’re a senior with a litany of life experiences to share – wouldn’t you rather get on with the business of finding a partner than figuring out your dating destination? Here are eight great ideas for first dates for seniors, designed to get you out from in front of the computer and into the swing of things with someone new.
Senior Dating Idea 1: The Bookstore
Bookstores are great places for dates. You’re surrounded by conversation starters and the chairs are usually pretty comfortable! Even if the date doesn’t go as planned, you can still pick up a great read for later. If it goes well, you can comfortably take the next step towards seeing one another again.
Senior Dating Idea 2: A Charity Walk or Volunteer Activity
If you find you’re both passionate for a charity or just simply active, why not walk and talk for a cause? There are always charity-driven events in your area that are in need of volunteers and participants. You can get to know one another, stay fit and lend a helping hand in the community all at once.
Senior Dating Idea 3: The Newest Museum Exhibit
If you both like art, science or history, why not see what’s going on at your local museums? An exhibit can be a great conversation starter and get you on the path of sharing like interests.
Senior Dating Idea 4: The Dog Park
If you’re both partial to pooches, take an hour and meet over at the local dog park. Both you and your pups can say hello and you can get to know one another in a relaxed, familiar environment.
Senior Dating Idea 5: The Local Park
Even if it’s simply sitting on a park bench and watching people go by, the local park is a great date idea (weather permitting, of course!). You can sit and talk or talk and walk, whatever the situation calls for and makes you both the most comfortable.
Senior Dating Idea 6: REI!
What’s better than sharing your passion for outdoor adventure than meeting for the first time in a place sure to catch both your fancies? Your local REI store gives you both the chance to talk about past and future adventures, share anecdotes and get past that first date hump by sharing something you both love – the outdoors.
Senior Dating Idea 7: Share a Cup (or glass)
Of course, it’s always possible to stay low-key and meet for your first date over a glass of wine or cup of coffee. A local wine bar or neighborhood coffee shop are both great locations to get acquainted without the pressure of a full meal hanging over your head. If things go well, you’ll have plenty of time to eat on future dates!
Senior Dating Idea 8: Live Afternoon Music on a Patio
Love jazz? Saturdays and Sundays are great for finding a patio to hear some live jazz while enjoying the great weather. Not only will the music provide a fun backdrop for your initial introductions but you may even have the opportunity to introduce your date to a new destination. It’s always fun to be the tour guide.
