We're entering holiday season, which in my opinion is the best time to meet people and increase your dating prospects. With all the parties, dinners, and networking events, you're missing out if you turn down invitations. Halloween especially is a great time to mix things up in your love life if it's grown a little stale with endless coffee dates. There's something to be said for scary movies and dark nights.
So, if you're thinking of doing something off the beaten path on your next date, try some of these Halloween ideas:
Local haunted houses and tours. The fun of Halloween is getting scared and clinging to someone next to you...a perfect date situation (if you're attracted to each other)! Check your local paper or events listings for any places in your area. In L.A. where I live, Hollywood tours are a favorite-lots of legends of stars and mobsters meeting grisly ends, their ghosts lurking around to make an appearance on Halloween. Take a date that interests you and show her your bravery (or lack thereof).
Costume parties! These are fun even if you aren't so creative. There are plenty of opportunities around---both private and public parties---so don't sit around waiting for an invitation. Check local listings. Involve your date in thinking up costume ideas and shopping for them together. You don't have to spend a lot of money, either. Thrift stores are an excellent resource if you can use a little imagination.
Carve some pumpkins. This is a tried-and-true part of Halloween, and can be very romantic and fun depending on your approach. Invite your love interest to go to a local pumpkin patch to find a couple of nice (or strangely shaped) pumpkins. Buy a nice carving set (about $10 at your local drugstore), put on a scary movie, and go for it! Have a little competition to see who can make theirs the scariest, most comical, or most original. Crack open a bottle of wine and you're set.
Haunted hayrides. These might be a little more out of the way and harder to find, but so worth it. If you're a Halloween buff like me, you can scout these out in advance with friends to see how long or scary they might be. It varies depending on how professional they are---some are scary, exciting, and everything you expect. On the other hand, if it's manned by children and ends in about five minutes, then you can both have a good laugh and share a drink afterwards. It's a win either way.
Happy Halloween!
