I received a bit of surprise this morning when I read the following email from a reader:

Hello....

I was wanting to join AmericanSingles.com but cannot get to the site no matter how I try......

through your website or any other way. I keep getting sent to the Spark.com dating site.

It is like they have high jacked their website address. Can you tell me what is going on?

First of all, don't worry the AmericanSingles.com domain did not get high jacked. It looks like a number of the Spark Network dating sites, including AmericanSingles.com and Date.ca, got rebranded and combined into a new dating site called Spark.com.

The new Spark dating site has their eyes set directly on Match.com and eHarmony members as both sites are mentioned on the Spark.com homepage. Memberships at Spark,com cost less and it looks like free members can read and reply to paying members messages. This feature is a first for Spark Networks.

The only thing that surprises me so far is that Spark Networks didn't let any of the media know before the switch. I am sure a press release will be made available today about this news but a day's worth of notice would have been nice. It would of given us a chance to reorganize the reviews and create an announcement blog post.

I just checked my other email account and it looks like Spark Networks did notify dating site members of the coming change.

The email lets members know that Date.ca and AmericanSingles.com are being upgraded to Spark.com which they call a "a fresh new dating experience". Spark Networks also mention that during the transition you may experience temporary service interruptions. Plus, once the upgrade has been completed, all of the members profile, membership status and login information will remain the same.

It looks like I have a new review to do as well as updating several old ones.
