Previously happy with match several years ago. But I moved and decided to date again. My profile was hidden. After moving and being a few years older, many rounds of profile changes were needed before going "Live" again with my profile. So one night I made a few changes to my profile. Within 10 minutes I was getting emails about "she noticed you". Since my profile was hidden, I thought that match was attempting to scam me into re-subscribing since my original subscription was expired. So I sent a nasty email to their customer service. They replied that they were sorry and the reason I was getting notified was that my profile was unhidden on 11/28. So, assuming that somehow, I may have accidentally clicked on an unhide button somehow, I proceeded to edit my profile again. Bam, 10 minutes later I am getting winks. I was very careful not to unhide. So another nasty email to customer service. Their reply: "Please be aware that all member profiles become visible at the time that changes to them are approved. This is done as a convenience to our members so that others can see the updates they've added." Convenience? More like an IN-CONVENIENCE! It is absolutely insane that trying to create or modify a profile will cause bouncing in and out of visibility after every little change. This is crazy. Now I will have potential dates seeing my unfinished profile, and watching me pop up and down. Now I understand why some of the people who I might be interested in that come up in my searches are all of a sudden gone. It is because Match keeps unhiding their profile without their permission and they have to keep going back in to hide it. This has the overall result of increaing the search results that people are getting and fraudulently indicating that said people are available and actively looking. Very "Shady" and unprofessional. Match was not like this last time I used it. So disappointed, and I have closed my account.

Very helpful critique, thank you. So frustrating. I hope Match takes seriously feedback such as yours. It helps no one to run a website like that.

I get your frustration. Match should never make a profile visible w/o the members making that change. I am curious why you would be updating a profile you want to keep invisible? Why not prepare all your changes but not implement them until you're ready to go visible?

he had his own reasons. not really anyone's business why. this was really also my issue. i hid my profile and have been gone for over a year to go back in it and find my profile actually visible. shady seems to be the name of the game that's for sure. there is no honor in anything any more. nowdays it seems like everything is done to maximize some sort of benefit to the company with disregard to clients/customers' needs. the consumer market is not for consumers any more. we have to scrimp and beg for ANY service let alone good service. we are having to deal with crap and shadiness of this sort it seems like all the time. what a shame.

Hidden/ visible profile sensibility? People who are ready to cheat on their significant other: Girlfriends, wives, so the need to be sneaky. Lol.

Same thing has happened to me. I'm wondering why people are looking at my profile with NO picture on it! I finally just removed my pictures and anything on the profile since I can't delete it and Match even rewrote what I put on my profile... (since you need a min of 200 characters for the "about me" section I just put in characters. They rewrote it and unhid me. The new about me said if you would like to know more about me email me. Now, If I wanted to write that, I would!

I’ve had my profile hidden for a long time & all of a sudden I started getting emails that I was winked at or messaged or whatever & thought it was odd since my profile was hidden. Come to find out, my profile was visible. I hid it again & within the same day I was getting emails again because it was reactivated. I decided to delete everything I put on my profile & removed my pictures. A couple weeks later I’m getting emails again & now my profile name has changed, everything I previously had on my profile is there again & someone else’s picture is there. I can’t get in touch with anyone there & every time I send an email I get an auto response saying because of certain words I used a human isn’t responding & gave me a link to hide my profile. This is ridiculous!

I've had this same problem August 2015!

A guy I gave my info out to and had one dud date with 6 months ago contacted me last week asking why i was back on the site and not willing to go back out with him, ignoring his messages, etc...To my knowledge, I wasn't even active on the site!!

I was receiving junk mail the week prior from match and wanted to opt out. When I logged into my old account, I had hundreds of emails, views, winks, etc. I had closed the account in Feb! When I tried to open the settings, it said I had to pay and reactivate my account to access the settings.

Basically, I had to rejoin and pay to delete the account!!??

I'm in-between relationships right now, not really wanting to be active on the site, but not ready to date either. So, I wrote on my profile what had happened, and that I was not ignoring anyone-just that match was unhiding my account while I had opted "hidden" (until I am ready to date again)..It's frustrating because I don't want anyone to feel hurt about rejection that never took place. Dating is tough enough without some glitch on the dating site pushing me out there.
Why be on there at all if I want to be hidden, one might ask? I will eventually want to date again and now I have paid membership.

Very same thing happened to me, that is, match.com unhid my hidden profile (while I was a long expired member), on two separate occasions, which meant that my profile was showing up in daily matches, and was visible. Caused some confusion with my partner, and anyone else who knew that I was in a relationship, yet had a visible profile. Am only writing this entry in case this happens to someone else and they are looking for precedents. Outside of that, I have to say I was pleased with match.com, but this arbitray unhiding is very problematic.

Match.com will never arbitrarily "un-hide" your profile. YOU are the one that un-hid it. Anytime you edit a word in your profile, add or delete a photo, the profile automatically becomes "un-hidden". Match.com does not do it......YOU DO....... You must have been looking at your profile and revised it in some way to make that happen. Yes, that would be problematic for your partner when someone notices that your profile is now visible on Match while you are supposed to be in a committed relationship. Funny, that very situation happened to a friend of mine this same time last year, I wonder if it was you? They are no longer together. So if you are creepin' on your profile be sure to go back and "hide" it after you update or revise it :)

First off, you completely contradicted yourself. I’m not going to sit here and explain everything you’re wrong about, but just know this....you are wrong about everything. People like you make me frustrated that I can’t slap some sense into you through the damn computer screen. Your post is a few years old, hopefully you’re a little smarter these days.

Yes they will! They’ll add a random photo if you delete yours too! I keep hiding my profile & they keep making it visible!
