PlentyOfFish has been in the game for years, but to keep up with upstarts like Tinder, continuous reinvention is a must. This year has seen plenty of change for POF, from being acquired by IAC/InterActive's Match Group to going public as part of the Match Group's IPO. Now the mobile app is getting a makeover.
A new update, launched December 15, 2015, has added several new features to the apps for iOS and Android. Bugs have also been fixed for a more stable user experience.
The first new feature will appeal to safety-minded singles. With free Voice Calling, you can place a secure, private call to someone without giving out your contact details. To call, open a message in your inbox. If the recipient is accepting Voice Calls, tap the phone icon to dial. Take note: calls are made through the app, so connect to wi-fi first if you're concerned about exceeding your monthly data limit.
Instagram addicts will be pleased by the second new feature: their favorite social network is now integrated with the POF app. To upload your favorite #nofilter snaps, simply click “Upload Images” and sign in with Instagram. If you're not the 'gramming type, you can upload an image already saved to your device, take a new image, or sign in with your Facebook credentials to import photos from your profile.
All images must be in JPG, GIF, or BMP format. POF users with free accounts can upload 8 images. Members with paid accounts can upload 16. In addition to boosting your picture stash, upgraded memberships come with the following perks:
- Find out if someone read or deleted your message
- Unlock every user's extended profile
- View your previous interactions with any user
- See the date and time someone viewed your profile
- See when someone was last online
- Show up first on Meet Me
- Update your username
- Experience POF without advertisements
- Get 3x more profiles views
PlentyOfFish offers 3 paid membership options: a 3-month plan, a 6-month plan, and a 12-month plan. Upgrades can be purchased directly within the app using PayPal or a credit card.
The final feature update for the new version of the app is Chat Head. With Chat Head, you can quickly read and respond to messages while using other apps so you never have to miss a message.
And of course, the old features you know and love are still there (just running better). Search profiles, view matches, add to favorites, send and receive unlimited messages, and take advantage of Ultra Match, POF's most sophisticated matching algorithm yet.
